Our Dental Mission Trips
“Help others and give something back. I guarantee you will discover that while public service improves the lives and the world around you, its greatest reward is the enrichment and new meaning it will brin your own life.” – Arnold Schwarzenegger
The importance of oral health is often neglected, not only throughout the United States, but throughout the world. According to the World Health Organization, nearly 3.5 billion people worldwide suffer from an oral health disease. Fortunately, the majority of oral health diseases are preventable.
If you are fortunate enough to know Dr. Lombardi personally then you know he emits a very driven personality. He loves to travel. He also loves to work. What better way to tackle oral health disease than traveling to remote communities throughout the world, practicing dentistry, and providing access to care to those in need.
Every year the office assembles of a team of doctors, hygienists, and assistants to travel across the world to remote locations to practice dentistry and educate the community on the importance of oral health. The team spends months, sometimes close to a year planning. Since the communities are often in remote locations, patient care is done without modern dental equipment. There is no fancy dental chair that reclines and moves up and down, there’s no xray machines, overhead lights, and certainly no flatscreen on the wall for you to turn to your favorite channel. But there are patients, many times as far as the eye can see. Men, woman, children, many of which are grown adults that have never seen a dentist. The ultimate goal on these mission trips is to educate as many individuals and communities as we can. Educate first, and treat second. Patient education is the key to prevention, and you cannot prevent what you do not know. The planning is rigorous and the days are long, but Schwarzenegger says it best, “its greatest reward is the enrichment and new meaning it will bring your own life.”
Thus far, Lombardi Dentistry has traveled to Guatemala, Puerto Rico, Belize, and most recently Nicaragua. Providing access to care and educating the lives of thousands of individuals. The team is currently being assembled and is planning for a trip to Kenya in East Africa for January of 2025.
